trauma-informed bodywork

Trauma is a part of life. Birth, growth, hardship, and pain are just some of the ways we experience trauma on a regular basis. Most of this trauma gets resolved innately - we are made to exist in this traumatic world. Given the right conditions of resources, support, and space for creativity, trauma resolution can happen spontaneously anywhere in our lives.

Sometimes we are overwhelmed. Sometimes our circumstances have not given us the opportunity to heal. Sometimes our trauma stays unresolved for so long that it becomes a part of us. This is what we call PTSD, trauma physiology, or hypervigilance.

There is always a way through, a way to re-distribute the forces that have overwhelmed us so that we may move through that experience to completion and integration. Many different types of therapy, movement practices, and bodywork can support the re-integration of traumatic overwhelm into a way of being that is resonant and whole.

Trauma-informed Care

Many practitioners at Metta offer trauma-informed care. Trauma-informed care understands that each individual's experience of trauma is unique. These practitioners are trained, prepared, and adept at holding a container for whatever expression of unresolved trauma you may bring into your session.

If this is important to you, please be sure to select the "trauma-informed" add-on when booking a massage.

Bodywork for trauma resolution

Trauma resolution can happen anywhere and anytime, given the appropriate conditions and support. Many of our visitors experience unexpected healing in this way. Some types of bodywork work address trauma more directly, with a more curated approach to resolution. alchemical alignment

Bodywork for Trauma Resolution & Embodiment of Spirit

Alchemical Alignment is an integrative, co- creative approach to working with unmetabolized trauma-response physiology, born out of craniosacral therapy, somatic experiencing, and movement practices. These sessions may, and often do, incorporate touch as part of a somatic approach to trauma resolution. These sessions may also be incredibly slow, gentle, and non-invasive. In addition to the physical (somatic) lens, Alchemical Alignment offers tools and support for working with inter-personal trauma, emotional imprints, and inherited threat-response physiology.

craniosacral therapy

Craniosacral therapy is a light-touch modality that introduces little to no manipulative pressure. With a precise anatomical lens, CST is particularly adept at supporting the resolution of physical trauma, including post-acute injuries (such as car accidents*) and chronic pain resulting from older injuries, habits, or tensions. Learn more >

*CST is never a replacement for emergency care. We will expect that any post-accident visits have already been cleared by a doctor with the necessary check-ups or imaging.

trauma-informed massage

During a trauma-informed massage, your practitioner will take extra care to understand your needs, including possible triggers and precautions, understanding how you experience the somatic manifestations of trauma, and holding a judgment-free container for you to express what needs to be expressed. Our trauma-informed practitioners take extra care with consent (watching for both verbal and non-verbal cues). You are always welcome to reach out to your practitioner in advance to discuss your questions or needs.
